Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening hypersensitivity or pseudo-allergic reaction to an exogenous agent. These severe reactions can be either immune medicated
(anaphylactic) or chemically mediated (anaphylactoid). Anaphylaxis is the result of an antigen-antibody reaction and is usually observed in individuals with
allergies. The immune response is directed against substances that are not inherently harmful to the body and that enter through either the skin (touching) or
the respiratory tract (eating).
